Convention floor photography at Galaxy Con Columbus 2025 — crowd and cosplay energy by Brian Mullin, Pause Studios

The event

What Galaxy Con
Columbus actually is.

Galaxy Con Columbus is one of the largest pop culture conventions in the Midwest. Three days, tens of thousands of attendees, a full celebrity guest lineup, cosplay competitions, panel programming, and a vendor floor that takes the better part of a day to walk through properly.

The Greater Columbus Convention Center is a serious venue. The space is large enough that you can be working one end of the floor and have no idea what's happening at the other end. For a photographer, that's both a challenge and an opportunity — the moments are everywhere, and they don't wait.

This was Pause Studios' full-coverage engagement of the 2025 event — not a press pass walkthrough, but committed documentary coverage of the floor, the celebrity appearances, the crowd, and the energy that a convention like this generates when it's running at full capacity.

The work

What it takes
to shoot this.

Convention Floor
Instinct

A convention floor doesn't have a schedule you can follow. The best images happen in the margins — a cosplayer stopping mid-stride, two strangers recognizing each other's costumes, a celebrity making eye contact with a fan who's been waiting two hours. You can't plan any of it. You have to already be watching.

Celebrity
Appearances

Celebrity guest appearances — autograph sessions, panel appearances, floor interactions — have a different rhythm than the general floor. Access is managed, timing is compressed, and the moments that matter are small. A smile across a signing table. The moment a guest looks up from a photo op.

Crowd Energy
at Scale

Tens of thousands of people in costume, in lines, in panels, and on a convention floor generate a specific kind of energy. The job is to document that energy — not just the objects in front of the camera, but the atmosphere of the whole event. Wide shots, floor-level moments, the quiet in-betweens between the loud ones.

Multi-Day
Coverage

Day one of a convention is not the same as day three. The energy shifts, the floor fills differently, and the notable moments distribute across the weekend. Multi-day coverage means reading each day separately and adapting — not applying the same approach three times.

Notable coverage

Eman Esfandi
at Galaxy Con.

Among the celebrity appearances at Galaxy Con Columbus 2025 was Eman Esfandi — actor best known for his role as Ezra Bridger in Ahsoka and his work in Elvis. The coverage of his appearance at the event — including autograph sessions, fan interactions, and panel moments — produced some of the strongest individual images from the weekend.

What makes celebrity coverage at conventions work is the same thing that makes any candid photography work: you're not photographing the event, you're photographing the connection the event creates. The fan who's been holding a photo for two years. The celebrity who takes a moment to actually talk, not just sign. Those images come from patience and positioning — not from the camera.

The Galaxy Con Columbus convention coverage, including images from the Eman Esfandi appearance, is part of the Pause Studios portfolio available at notable-work.

What this means for your event

Convention experience
translates.

Convention photography is the most demanding version of event photography. If a photographer can work a three-day floor with multiple celebrity appearances, shifting crowd energy, managed access windows, and no consistent light source — they can work your corporate event, your gala, your brand activation, or your private occasion.

The instinct doesn't change by event type. The context does. That's why Pause Studios brings the same approach to a Windsor gala as it does to three days on a convention floor in Columbus: read the room, anticipate what's coming, and be in position before the moment happens.

Pause Studios covers convention events across North America — including Fan Expo Cleveland (2024), Galaxy Con Columbus (2025), and ongoing coverage of the convention circuit. For convention and fan event photography, see the full portfolio or reach out directly.
