Lionel Messi in motion on the pitch — sports photography by Brian Mullin

At a glance

How much does a sports photographer cost?

Pause Studios is a candid-first sports, athlete, and equestrian photographer led by Brian Mullin. The instinct is built on Division I college basketball coverage and applies the same anticipation-first approach to fast-environment sports — basketball, soccer, hockey, football, boxing, martial arts, track and field, volleyball, and equestrian competition.

Sports photography starts at $1,400 for individual athlete sessions and single-game coverage. Tournament and multi-day coverage is priced by scope. Available across Detroit, Chicago, Cleveland, Columbus, Toronto, New York, Los Angeles, and 10 other markets in the US, Canada, and Mexico.

Standard delivery is 5–7 business days to a private gallery. Rush available. Brian responds within 24 hours. See full pricing or build a custom estimate.

Scope

Three ways to work.

Scope 01

Individual Athlete

Dedicated sessions for one athlete. Portfolio builds, action photography, personal brand content, and editorial-grade imagery for social, press, or sponsorship. Priced for the individual — not a full event rate. Use the quote tool and select Individual Athlete scope.

Scope 02

Sports Events

Single-game or single-event coverage. Basketball, soccer, hockey, football, boxing, martial arts, track, volleyball — fast environments where you're reading the room and anticipating the peak before it breaks. Full-session delivery, all players and action captured.

Scope 03

Tournaments & Multi-Day

Extended tournament coverage. Multiple sessions, multiple teams, multiple days. Ideal for regional competitions, championships, league events, and organizations that need a comprehensive visual record — not just highlights.

Individual sessions

One athlete.
Not a team rate.

Most photographers price sports coverage as a flat event rate. That works for teams. It doesn't make sense for an individual who needs a portfolio session or a set of action images for their own use.

Individual athlete sessions at Pause Studios are scoped and priced differently. You get the same editorial quality — fully edited, gallery-delivered, print-ready — at a rate that fits the actual scale of the work.

The approach

Built for
fast environments.

01

Anticipation over reaction

The peak moment is gone by the time most photographers respond to it. The work here is reading the play before it breaks — understanding where the energy is going before it gets there.

02

No setup, no disruption

Nothing staged. No one pulled from the court or the field for posed shots. The images are real moments — which is exactly what makes them worth keeping.

03

Editorial quality delivery

Fully edited, organized, and delivered to a private gallery. Print-ready, web-ready, and ready to use the day you receive them. Standard turnaround: 5–7 business days. Rush available.

Common questions

Do you work with individual athletes, not just teams or events?

Yes — individual athlete sessions are a separate scope and priced accordingly. You don't pay a full event rate for a session that's scoped to one person. Use the quote tool, select Sports Coverage, and choose Individual Athlete scope.

What sports do you cover?

Basketball, soccer, hockey, football, boxing, martial arts, track and field, volleyball, and more. Fast-environment sports are the core — anything where the moment is gone before a slower shooter finds focus. Equestrian and specialty events are also available as a separate offering.

Do you travel to Chicago, Cleveland, or Columbus for sports coverage?

Yes. All three are regular markets. Detroit is home base (Windsor is just across the river). For Cleveland, Columbus, and Chicago, travel is built into the project quote — get a specific estimate using the quote tool.

How long until I receive the images?

Standard turnaround is 5–7 business days from the shoot date. Rush delivery is available for an additional fee. All images are delivered to a private gallery — fully edited, high-resolution, print-ready.
